IIM Sambalpur at a glance

Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi ji, graced the occasion and laid the foundation stone for the permanent campus of IIM Sambalpur via video conferencing on 2nd January 2021. In a remarkably short period, the permanent campus of the Indian Institute of Management Sambalpur has been erected on an expansive land measuring approximately 200 acres in Basantpur village near Goshala, of Sambalpur City. Conveniently located, it is 5 km from Hirakud Railway Station, 27 km from the District Headquarters Sambalpur, and 55 km from Jharsuguda Airport.

Inspired by the vision of Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, the founding director of IIM Sambalpur, the campus stands out with its remarkable integration of regional art. Notably, Odisha's traditional IKAT—a patterned textile-dyeing technique—is elegantly mapped onto the brick facade, reflecting the vibrant colours of the state's soils.

The entire institute is equipped with Wi-Fi internet and centralized air conditioning. The 4-star GRIHA-rated sustainable campus adheres to energy-efficient and ecologically sensitive principles of development. Measures such as the use of Dual Flushing Cisterns, water-efficient urinals, showers, faucets, etc., contribute to reducing domestic water consumption. The campus is designed to be 100% daylit in regularly occupied living areas, with fresh air-ventilated interior spaces. Treated water from the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is efficiently utilized for irrigation and flushing. Photovoltaic solar power palnt rooftop installation and the incorporation of LED lighting and Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) compliant electric appliances, including DG Sets, transformers, lifts, pumps, motors, etc., ensures a significant reduction in electricity consumption.

The campus boasts several key structures, including the Koutilya - Administration Building, Thakshasila 1 and 2 - Academic Blocks, Konark - Auditorium Block, I2 Hub: Incubation, Innovation and Library, Faculty Block, and MDP Block, which includes a Guest House. All buildings were facilitated with ramps and restrooms for the persons with physically challenged. The Library operates 24/7. Each lecture hall is equipped with traditional chalkboards, digital boards, and blended boards. Additionally, lecture notes are seamlessly transferable to students' individual mobile phones.

Hostel Premises & Faculty Residence

Accommodation facilities include 11 hostel buildings—four girls' hostels, each with 60 single occupancy rooms, five boys' hostels, each with 60 single occupancy rooms. All rooms are featured with lighting ventilation, and storage shelves and cupboards for they personal belongings. Ph.D. research scholars have a separate hostel with an attached kitchen and restrooms. The total capacity of all hostels is 600 members. The Mess & Dining Block is designed to comfortably seat around 500 students simultaneously.

Moreover, the campus features Faculty Residence and Staff Residence for over 100 occupants, the Director's Bungalow, and a Community Centre.
