Academic Profile
Dr. Varun Bhardwaj is a member of the Data Science & Mathematics area at IIM Sambalpur. He holds a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where his dissertation extended classical Weyl–Titchmarsh theory to systems with complex-valued distributional coefficients, under the supervision of Prof. Rudi Weikard. He also holds an MBA in Supply Chain Management from Syracuse University, USA.
His current research interests lie in ergodic theory and ordinary differential equations with distributional coefficients. His work engages with dynamical systems, Pascal adic transformations, Bratteli diagrams, spectral theory, and the limit-point/limit-circle classification for differential equations with distributional coefficients.
Dr. Bhardwaj has substantial experience teaching undergraduate mathematics in both India and the United States. At IIM Sambalpur, he teaches Mathematics-I and Mathematics-II for the B.S. in Data Science & Artificial Intelligence programme, and he previously taught a range of undergraduate mathematics courses at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
His interdisciplinary background — spanning mathematics, physics, and supply chain management — allows him to connect mathematical theory with applications in data science, analytics, operations, and decision-making.
