MBA for Working Professionals

Programme Structure and Courses

This two-year MBA is designed for working professionals, executives, strategic leaders and entrepreneurs, offered in the in-person mode with an option for an internal immersion module at international universities. Classes are held on weekends at IIM Sambalpur – Delhi Campus, ISID, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.

The programme spans 915 hours over two years. Year one covers core management fundamentals; year two offers depth across management functions, with specialization options in Information Management, Product Management, Entrepreneurial Innovation, Sustainability & Risk Management, and Functional domains.

Uniqueness of the Programme

A hybrid programme for professionals with a minimum of three years' experience who want to upgrade their management skills without leaving active employment. It emphasises a flipped-classroom strategy, practical application and real-world projects, so learning can be applied directly to participants' careers.

Pedagogy

A blend of flipped classroom, lectures, case discussions, project work, term papers, role-play, seminar presentations, assignments, management games and simulations.

Programme Structure

1. 900+ total classroom hours: 540 hours in year one, 375 hours in year two.
2. Year One (Terms I–III): 540 hours of core courses.
3. Year Two (Terms IV–VI): 384 hours of elective courses.
4. Term VI includes a CEO Immersion programme, a mini dissertation, and an optional 1–2 week International Immersion with partner universities.
5. Delivery mixes flipped classroom, case-based teaching, simulations, problem-solving exercises, assignments, role play and in-class discussions.

Functional Electives: Accounting & Finance; Marketing Management; Operations Management; Economics; Information System Management; OB & Human Resource Management; Policy and Strategic Management.

CEO Immersion

In Term VI, students interact with CEOs and senior executives from MNCs, major Indian corporates, unicorns, startups and PSUs — past sessions have featured leaders from Hindalco, Mahindra Lifespace, Aditya Birla Renewables, Vedanta, Deloitte, Western Digital India, Ashok Leyland, YES Bank, MCL, IBM, Flipkart, ITC and Reliance, among others.

Mini Dissertation

A research-based manuscript or written report — covering objectives, problem statement, methodology, argumentation and findings — completed in the second year to demonstrate research competence.

International Immersion Programme

An optional 1–2 week programme with partner institutions abroad, accompanied by IIM Sambalpur faculty, including classroom sessions and at least one industry visit, aimed at building global business perspective and cultural awareness.

Duration & Class Timings

Two years across six terms. Classes are held at the Delhi Centre on Saturdays and Sundays, 10:00 AM–5:30 PM, with no classes on the third Saturday and Sunday of each month.

Eligibility Conditions

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline, with a minimum of 50% marks.
• At least 3 years of full-time managerial/professional experience after the Bachelor's degree, as of the application deadline.
• Open to all nationalities.
• Seats reserved for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/PWD/EWS candidates per Government of India rules.

Selection Process

Self-Financed Candidates: Eligible candidates are called for a Personal Interview (PI); the Admissions Committee determines the shortlist in consultation with the Competent Authority. A No-Objection Certificate/Consent Letter from the current employer is required.

Industry-Sponsored Candidates: The sponsored candidate must have at least 2 years' service with the sponsoring organisation at the time of admission. Selection is primarily interview-based, with a letter from the sponsoring company required; sponsored admits follow the same rules as regular admits.

Statement of Purpose (SOP)

An SOP of up to 2,000 words covering career path, interests, professional contributions, goals and motivation for pursuing the programme.

Personal Interview

Shortlisted candidates appear before a selection panel that assesses managerial acumen and entrepreneurial mindset.

Merit List

Weightage: Personal Interview 60%, Academic Performance 10%, Diversity 10%, SOP & Career Objectives 20%.

IIM Sambalpur reserves the right to modify admission criteria and cut-offs until the admission process for the batch is complete. Disputes fall under the jurisdiction of courts in Sambalpur.

Application Fees

An application fee of Rs. 1,000/- plus GST (non-refundable) is payable online; the receipt must be uploaded with the application. The security deposit is payable with Term I fees, and the alumni fee with Term VI fees. Term fees cover library access, materials, cases and database/archive access.
